CE#2 Is The Theory Of Light Wrong? Listeria Outbreak In Cantaloupe

Is the theory of light wrong?
Prominence-Albert Einstein, known as a total genius, might be wrong for his greatest theory. His theory on light, how nothing can travel faster than light, might be proved wrong by a group of physicist in Switzerland and Italy.
Drama-This event has caused much talk in the scientific community, even questioning if any of the other things that Einstein's theory could be proved wrong.
Summary-Scientist have found particles that are slightly faster than light. Scientist have been checking this for about six months. This does not mean that he is completely wrong. Einstein's theory is that no solid object can travel faster than light in a closed vacuum. This could still prove Einstein's theory is still right.
Reaction-Just because we have found new particles doesn't necessarily prove Einstein's theory wrong. You see Einstein's theory says that a solid object can't travel faster than light in a vacuum. Einstein was and still is a genius the problem is that science changes. As science changes theories might change. It doesn't mean that the theory is wrong. Is that a new thing has come into the mix.

Listeria Outbreak in Cantaloupe
Impact-There has been 13 deaths, a shocking number, because of the recent listeria outbreak in cantaloupe. The death poll could even reach to 16. This is mainly to effect newborn babies, pregnant women, and, the elderly.
Proximity-There were reports of this cantaloupe caused illness in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Colorado. Which means that there has been food poisoning in these states. Some deaths were in these states, but not all.
Summary-Many states have been affected with listeria. This has affected Kansas with two deaths. The problem with listeria is that it grows in room temperature and most people have there cantaloupe at room temperature. Luckily this does not affect the entire groups of people. The outbreak has caused a shocking number of deaths. This is the biggest health outbreak in the history of the U.S.
Reaction-This is incredible. 16 deaths is just amazing. Considering it is the biggest health outbreak it just amazing that I didn't get infected. My family sometimes buy fruit, cantaloupe being one of them, and I can say it's lucky my family and I didn't get affected. Hopefully there are no more deaths. This doesn't affect me even though it only really affects newborns, pregnant women, and, the elderly. But still any disease can effect anybody.

New Issue of Free Press

In the new issue of Free Press newspaper, the article that I really enjoyed was the top 10 songs that remind the press about fall. The reason that I liked it was that it had bands that I like and listen too. It is great that the songs that were on that list were not so mainstream. They were more of hipster, alternative, or indie bands. Because when most people write articles they usually include mainstream band that everyone has listened to. It is nice to have a variety.
Something that I did not like in the new issue is the parking article. The article itself was great. Really proving the problem that we face at Free State. The part that I did not like in the article is the picture. It did not describe the whole point of the article. It had nothing to do with the article. If there was a picture of how congested the driveway is in the morning at Free State, it would have been perfect.

Overall I thought that this issue was better than the first issue of Free Press.

Freedom or Safety? A tough choice.

I agree that safety and freedom are both major concepts in life and both are important.  But if we only have to choose one I would say freedom. Freedom gives us our life and it is our decision what we do with that. If you want to damage your life with your new freedom go ahead. The smart people will use their freedom wisely and will live life. We, as people, are never 100% safe anyway. How do we now when we will die, when we get disease, or when tragedy strikes. That's right, we don't. We will never be completely safe, and what would our life be without risks? It would be pretty boring. As myself, I love risks, it gives me a sense of adventure. I love that. Now it is your decision what you do with you life. You can live it freely or safe. Even our founding fathers saw to it to give us freedom in the first amendment. You can't be safe without freedom but you can have freedom without being safe. Basically freedom is more important than safety. It's your choice to live your life safe or not, but in order to live your life you have to be free.

Barry Siegel Prized Work

Barry Siegel's award winning piece "A Father's Pain, a Judge's Duty, and a Justice Beyond Their Reach" is simply amazing. The way that Barry Siegel describes the unfortunate tragedy of  child Gage Wayment is so sad, it basically melts my heart. The word choice was simple but it made the story feel complex. He used some repetition but not that much. He reported this story as the story was being reported by the people in the incident and not as a reporter. He had an un-bias opinion but you still had an opinion after you read the story. After reading the article you can tell why he won the Pulitzer Award.

Photo-journalist show the point of view that we can't see.

There has been debate that photo-journalist shouldn't take photography of the dead of horrible events. I don't agree with any of that. Photo-journalist show a point of view that we can't see. They show a horrible event, like 9/11, and  make the photos show bravery and a terror that we can't even describe. They gives us a new perspective on events. They even risk their lives to show us events, some so terrible and some so beautiful. We can't even describe some of the photos they take. Photo-journalst should be allowed to show those horrific events. They show us the truth in photos.

CE#1 Homes of People In Danger of Falling Into a River

Conflict-Many people of the east coast have been complaining because of Hurricane Irene and how America over prepared. Many people have said that it was just a bother to them and just a waste of time. the
Drama-As you know we have heard for the entire week on how the hurricane was going to be a big deal. People were scared that this would effect them and their lives
Summary-Hurrican Irene was supposed to be a huge hurricane capable of hitting Washington D.C. and New York City, two major cities that rarely do not have hurricanes. This caused fear to people living in the east coast. People over prepared and were overwhelmed with the idea of a huge hurricane coming. Now many people are complaining over the fact that it was not a huge hurricane and that it only caused an incovience to the people in the east coast.
Reaction-I feel as though peopel be should not be complaing. You're lucky to have notice when weather is going to strike. Now you're complaining that it didn't strike. Look it is always better to be safe than sorry and people just don't understand that we dodge a bullet. Imagine if the hurricane did happen. People would complain about the damage the hurricane has caused. I guess you can't make people happy.

CE#1 Battle of Libya: Still Not Over

 This event is newsworthy because,
1.Impact: Many innocent people of Libya are being killed and treated unfair by ruthless dictator Gadhafi.
2.Drama: The war with Libya has been happening since January. We have seen very little progress but now it seems that we have been able to catch Gadhafi and restore peace in Libya.
Summary:
We have been fighting for Libya to restore peace since late January. Little progress has happened. Suddenly in recent news we have been able to catch Gadhafi. We are now trying to make him and his army surrender. After months of war we finally have some hope regarding the future of Libya.
Reaction:
Well, finally! We have some progress in this terrible war. Even though we catch Gadhafi we will still have problems in Libya. The future of Libya still has to be decided. Will the government become a democracy? Will we finally be able to restore peace and harmony into Libya. I hope so, because of the terrible things that Gadhafi the people deserve a safe country.
